The University of Iowa is temporarily suspending its search for a new dean of the College of Law. A national search was launched in July and the university invited three candidates to campus in early-December. After evaluating campus feedback and consulting with the search committee, university leadership determined none of candidates was the right fit for the position and decided to pause the search.

The search committee for the next dean of the University of Iowa College of Law is pleased to announce that three candidates will participate in campus visits in early December. Each candidate will participate in an open forum and meet with faculty, staff, students, shared governance, and campus leadership.

Todd Pettys will serve as interim dean of the University of Iowa College of Law, effective Jan. 1, 2025, until a new dean is in place.

University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students have been named to the search committee for a new dean of the College of Law.

Kevin Washburn, who joined the University of Iowa College of Law as dean in 2018, has announced that he will step down from the position at the end of the year, effective on Dec. 31, 2024.
